Lounge Act Preview - Harlan
The second band in today as a part of our double dip is Harlan. Shiv featured the band on Airchexx recently and I asked
him if he would be willing provide some commentary about the band for our Lounge Act preview. Here is what he had to say.
“The roots of Harlan began years ago in Kentucky when John Harlan Norris was attending art school. He got interested in music and songwriting through his study of the processes of painting. After college, he moved to New York briefly, but ended up returning to Kentucky where he moved into a cabin in the mountains and focused on his artwork.
That eventually led him to the graduate program at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. John’s thesis project turned into an exhibition of artwork coupled with a companion cd of music called “The Still Beat”. The self-produced and self-recorded album was well received and has now earned Harlan a national distribution deal for the cd (which becomes more widely available this week). In the meantime, John has expanded the solo project into a full band and they are touring this Spring and already in the process of recording a second album.”
