Monolith 2007 Recap - Ra Ra Riot
I think that we’ll always have a special connection to Ra Ra Riot here at WOXY. After all, before the folks at lala.com stepped in to save us, they were the last Lounge Act session that we thought we were ever going to have. After playing songs from a demo EP, they stopped into the Lounge in September of 2006.
A year later, a lot has changed for us and for the young band. Earlier this summer they visited our Cincinnati-based studios about a month after the tragic death of their drummer John Pike. They walked into Monolith with a brand new drummer (19-year-old Cameron Wisch) and they absolutely packed the room for the WOXY.COM stage.
Monolith brought them out to Colorado for the first time and and there is no question that their set was a highlight of the festival. Playing off the fervor of the crowd and, perhaps, more than a little influenced by the high altitude, the band’s set even included both of the 2 Kate Bush covers (”Suspended In Gaffa” and “Hounds Of Love”) that have become live favorites over the last year.
Ra Ra Riot are currently playing live dates across the U.S. with Editors. They will then head to England, where they just signed to V2 Records, to continue the Editors tour overseas. Once touring is completed, the band will head back into the studio and are hoping for a Spring 2008 release for a full-length album. We wish them all the best and look forward to many more Lounge Acts to come!

I enjoyed the set so much I had to go back and see them last night at The Fillmore (here in SF) with Editors. Awesome live show!

Awesome Cody. I live in Boston but my sister was at the Fillmore show. She loved it but it sounds like it could have been longer. Next time maybe they’ll headline in SF.
