David Matysiak and Mason Brown were formerly members of a band that we’ve played quite a bit over the years called Jet By Day. When that band called it quits in 2006, David & Mason decided to keep making music as Coyote Bones was born.
The recording of their debut record “Gentleman On the Rocks” was a very organic process. They ended up working with a talented group of friends and musicians including Andy Lemaster of Now It’s Overhead, Maria Taylor & Orenda Fink of Azure Ray, and also members of Tilly & The Wall, The Faint, and Bright Eyes.

Wow, you guys really know your Dylan! This was a very very tough contest for us to choose the winners but in the end we had to pick just 4 of you who entered the contest to win the double CD of the “I’m Not There” soundtrack.
Enjoy the four winning comments while our winners prepare to enjoy their bounty……
Bianca -
Real tough question. I would say “Masters of war” because this song’s the perfect anti-militarist protest. Dylan can see through the masks of moral superiority, and shows them up(the ones who “build the big bombs”) for the cowardly, power-mongering, money-grabbing hypocrites they are. It’s so strong and powerful that I cant help feeling angry when I hear it.
Andy -
In all seriousness, “Cold Irons Bound” has been on my mental playlist ever since its release in 1997. I still have the ticket stub for my spot in line for the midnight release of Time Out Of Mind, and I don’t think my relationship with my college roommate will ever be the same for all the late nights I stomped along with that rhythm. The way that song builds and crescendos musically rips at you like upside down gravity. Your feet are in those irons, and all of a sudden your knees are all you’ve got. And then the lyrics start.
“Reality has always had too many heads.” There’s no way to parse this song. It’s no ballad or existential talking blues. It’s a proud rage at how distant he feels from life and love.

It’s Monday and you are back at work after a nice weekend. Well why don’t you let us help ease you back into the work week with a doubleheader of Lounge Acts today featuring The Scotland Yard Gospel Choir and The Seedy Seeds? SYGC have just released their second full length album for Bloodshot Records and the band out of Chicago played last night here in Cincinnati as a part of their current tour. The band has also already opened gigs for both Arcade Fire and Spoon in their short history.
The second half of the double dip features The Seedy Seeds who are local to the Cincinnati area but have made some waves nationally as well this year thanks to their excellent album, Change States. The album that Idolator coined as Appalachitronica has been a WOXY.com favorite this year and we are excited to welcome them in for their Lounge Act debut.
So be sure to tune in to WOXY.com today for two great sessions…

Earlier this year, Mike hosted a series of live sessions in San Francisco during the Noise Pop festival. We caught Love Like Fire on their home turf then, but they made it to our neck of the woods for their second Lounge Act session.
Here, the band discusses the daunting task of booking shows across the country (while headed to the CMJ Festival) and play selections from their “Bed Of Gold” and “An Ocean In The Air” EPs.

During CMJ week, Bryan Jay and I camped out at the Gothamist House for a 4-day live broadcast. After seeing the lineups that Gothamist hosted during CMJ 2006, it was a no-brainer for us to get involved in the event this year. We want to send a round of thanks to all of the musicians who played, Jen Carlson @ Gothamist for getting us involved, and the staff of White Rabbit who made the week a lot of fun.
We took over White Rabbit from Wednesday-Saturday and had an incredible lineup of bands and artists take the stage. White Rabbit is not typically a music venue, so a small stage had to be setup each day and all of the bands had to either strip down their sets or get creative to make things fit. More often than not, it felt like watching a band play in your best friend’s living room and there was a great vibe throughout the week.
This is the first in a series of podcasts I am putting together to spotlight the performances from each day. It is worth noting that this was quite a guerilla broadcast — Bryan Jay tapped into the bar’s somewhat spotty internet access and streamed directly from a laptop. I have picked the best recordings from each day, but we do not have high quality audio for each and every performance of the week. In fact, it was a little heartbreaking to find certain songs that I was DYING to use in the podcasts that had various technical glithces and snafus rendering them unusable! We still got a lot of great tracks and I hope that you’ll enjoy listening to them.
GOTHAMIST HOUSE @ CMJ 2007 — Wednesday, October 17th
Peasant “The Wind”
Sparrow House “Way To Leave”
O’Death “Only Daughter”, “Down To Best”
The Forms “Alpha”, “Bones”, “Knowledge In Hand”
Cut Off Your Hands “Expectations”, “You & I”

We caught up with VHS Or Beta in the Lounge on a week where they were sort of in-between legs of their tour. After completing dates with Walter Meego and hitting up the late-night television circuit, Craig Pfunder and Mike McGill from the band stopped in for an acoustic session.
In this performance, you’ll hear three cuts from the band’s latest album Bring On The Comets. They also threw “You Got Me” into the set, which is a song we played heavily off their last album called Night On Fire.

Our friends out of Dayton, Ohio, Lab Partners have had a great year and are on the road this week as well. The band are playing a few dates this week still out in support of their excellent EP from earlier this year, Keep Quiet. They are also close to their next full length, which should see a release in early 2008 from Reverb Records.
Here is a cut from their May Lounge Act for download…

Earlier this year, John Pike of Ra Ra Riot died tragically. The band has continued on in his memory and are planning a great night of music for the John Ryan Pike Memorial Foundation.
The show is happening December 15th in Boston at Middle East Downstairs and will feature performances by Ra Ra Riot, Tokyo Police Club, Vampire Weekend and special guests. Tickets are $15 and you must be 18+ to attend.
All proceeds from ticket sales will go towards the John Ryan Pike Memorial Foundation.
For those of you who are unable to make it to the show but would still like to donate to the memorial fund, donations can be sent to the John Ryan Pike Memorial Fund:
c/o Citizens Bank
37 Enon Street
Beverly, MA 01915
Or via Paypal to: johnryanpikememorialfund(AT)Gmail.com
Started by his family, the John Ryan Pike Memorial Foundation is going to begin a lending library of musical instruments that will allow underprivileged children to begin playing by borrowing an instrument, or simply provide them access to an instrument that they may have never tried before. The foundation plans to join forces with local high schools and colleges to bring these children together with students who are willing to volunteer music lessons. The long term hope for the foundation is that one day, they will have the means necessary to create a rehearsal/recording space and ultimately a community where musicians can continue on in the pursuit of John’s passion, playing and creating music.
For more information on the foundation you email: johnrpikememorialfund(AT)gmail.com
