Aloha - The Lightworks EP Giveaway
Time for our first giveaway of 2008 here on The Futurist. We had a great time giving away lots of goodies last year and have loads of stuff planned for the new year as well. First off, its the recently released EP from Aloha, The Lightworks EP. Which is a very enticing glimpse of what the boys have been up to since 2006’s excellent album Some Echoes.
They also have a new full length album on the way here in 2008 as well to look forward to.
So, if you wanna snag a copy of the new Aloha EP, here is what you need to do. Give us your favorite Aloha song past or present and why in the comments and you will be entered into the contest. I will announce winners here next Friday on The Futurist.

I am partial to Roanoke born on the first EP. So good. So different from everything at the time.
Love it to this day.

Between the walls is my favorite by far… I just love that tiny organ sound in the background, makes me melt every time i hear it!

Gotta go with Between the Wall also.. great song. Body buzz is cool as well.

Between the Walls is the best by far.
Why? It’s a happy little song about imprisonment (self-evident in the title), anger management (the lyric “counting down from ten”), and the inherent futility of life (”one by one the days get done”).

I’ve always been a big fan of Brace Your Face. When it hits that chorus, “I got a feeling it can never be,” the song makes me think of all those missed opportunities and memories that occur in our lives. Would it have worked? Could I have done it that way? Who knows…

Man, when I first heard “Brace Your Face”, I was astounded. A friend told me about Aloha, and I went out on a limb and bought “Some Echoes”. The composition, instrumentation and mix on “Brace Your Face” is just perfect. It’s so mysterious. But the best part of that song is even though it’s six and a half minutes long, that song is consistant the whole way through. It doesn’t feel long at all, or drag like some other longer tracks do.
“If I Lie Down” is another favourite. :]

Thermostat, I love the timing of this song and the deliberate vocals. To me the song is driven by the drums, which push the song through great crescendos. As always Cale Parks is great.

“if i lie down”… that organ gives me the feeling of being somewhere spiritual, maybe a church, during an eulogy “i hold this vision of you high” just seems to be about loss or unrealization of what could have been. “will i lose you, if i lie down?” its just so soulful to me, full of loss, perhaps regret. i lost my aunt last year and this is the closing song to my mix tribute to her.

I’ll be honest. I’m not familiar with Aloha’s music, but with only eight entries in this Giveaway so far, maybe this is a good time to correct that!

“Your Eyes.” Because I appreciate any song that has the word “align” in it. Also, I think that “you’ve got nothing to be but alone” is a great lyric.
