It was a big thrill having Okkervil River into the lounge last week. Will Sheff played three of the four songs solo acoustic for us during their session and our friend Kevin of Soft City Lights did a great job capturing this stripped down version of “A Hand To Take Hold Of The Scene” from their most recent album, The Stage Names.
Enjoy the video below, and a download of the session as well…..
Late last week the good folks from the Forecastle Festival announced their lineup for 2008. Forecastle takes place just down the road from us in Louisville, Kentucky and is a great celebration of music, art, and activism. Spin Magazine called Forecastle “One of the Top 101 Things To Do In America” and their regional attention to detail is something we certainly appreciate here at the Future Of Rock N Roll.
WOXY.com is proud to be a media sponsor for this years Forecastle Festival, so look for more information and goodies from us leading up to this years event. The 7th annual event takes place July 25th – 27th @ the Riverfront Belvedere in Louisville, KY. Tickets are on sale today! Get em online or at these great regional record stores….

Seattle resident Scott Reitherman released his debut record as Throw Me The Statue last year on his very own Baskerville Hill label. At the time, he also played damn near all the instruments on the record, but what a difference a year makes.
Since recording the cd he’s expanded the project into a full-fledged band, gotten signed to Secretly Canadian, and is currently touring the country for the first time.
It was during this tour that Scott and the band dropped in to the Lounge for their first session with us. In this performance, they chat with Mike about life on the road, their adventures at SXSW this year, and perform five tracks from the Moonbeams disc in the Lounge.
A couple of cool videos from our time in Austin during SXSW 2008 to share today. Both from The Helio Sequence, one video is from our session and the other is some bonus footage taken outside the studio that day, enjoy!
Here is a little preview of what we have going on in the Lounge this week on WOXY.com. What promises to be four great performances start today with Finest Dearest from San Francisco. Here are the details of what to expect in the Lounge this week:
Today @ 1pm Finest Dearest
This is the second Lounge Act for the San Francisco based band, however it is thier first trip into the lounge here in Cincinnati. They recorded a great set for us out in San Fran early last year during the Noise Pop festival. Check that session out here. Their debut album just recently hit stores, and the set today should be great.
Tuesday 3:30pm ET Velella Velella
All of us have really been enjoying the Flight Cub EP from this Seattle based 4-piece and are really excited to have them into the Lounge this week. Tune in for this set tomorrow and expect some energetic dance grooves to help get you through the afternoon.
Wednesday 4pm ET The Little Ones
Another band we have had the pleasure of hosting for a live session, though not in Cincinnati, joins us on Wednesday. The Little Ones did a great set for us last year down at EAR Studios in Austin during SXSW. It will be a real treat to catch up with them as they take a pit stop during their current tour with Ra Ra Riot. The band have just released the Terry Tales & Fallen Gates EP, with a full-length slated for later in the year. So tune in for some new music from The Little Ones.
Friday 2pm EST
Peter Adams
We close out a busy week in the lounge with a set from Cincinnati singer/songwriter Peter Adams. Adams is getting ready to release his sophomore album, I Woke With Planets In My Face on May 13th and will be previewing some of that new material for us in the Lounge.
So do your best to check out these great lounge act sessions this week on WOXY.com…..

We’ve been fans of Film School’s brand of West Coast shoegazer-inspired psychedelia for years but somehow, we’ve always managed to miss them in Cincinnati, so we jumped at the chance to host them in Austin. Their three-guitar attack still allows for all of the melody in Greg Bertens’ songs to shine through making them somewhat of a rarity in 2008: a highly melodic, guitar-driven American band that’s not afraid to crank it up. They really wanted to show their appreciation for the years WOXY support, and delivered a strong set of tunes from their latest CD, Hideout.
Admittedly, by the time the band stopped by EAR Studios for our final session on Friday afternoon, our fourth day in Austin, the long days and nights of SXSW may have started to catch up to your humble WOXY crew. This made for a rather free-wheeling, and perhaps a little silly, interview portion. But the truth was, we all got along really well and spent an extended amount of time after the session just hanging out and chatting, with the band even inviting the station to present a few shows on their upcoming tour.
A quick update on our last two Local Lixx episodes for you today, have a look and listen to the show notes and episodes below…..
