Had a great time doing Friends Of The Futurist with another great blogger last week. Our guest was Justin Gage of the excellent L.A. based music blog, Aquarium Drunkard and he had some great picks for the show. I have read Aquarium Drunkard for years now and have always felt like Justin and I share alot of the same favorite artists (and the Wilco reference does not hurt either). Have a look first at the playlist for the episode right here.

Over the course of five albums, Kori Gardner and Jason Hammel have turned their irresistible melodies and harmonies into a genuine indie rock juggernaut.
Just four months after the birth of their second daughter, the duo were back on the road in support of Re-Arrange Us. The songs in this performance are punctuated by the addition of Lewis and Anton Patzner of the band Judgement Day as string players.
While this tour (with Headlights) has now concluded, you can catch Mates Of State appearing at several summer festivals including Lollapalooza and the All Points West Festival in New Jersey.

When The Features stopped in to our studio last May for a Lounge Act in between records, we knew we would be getting some brand new music from the band. We were right and were fortunate enough to hear several new tracks from the Tennessee boys. In the time that has passed, I wondered what would become of that new material, and several of the song quickly became favorites of ours here at WOXY.com.
And at the end of September, we get a special treat from The Features, as they have decided to release their brand new album, Some Kind Of Salvation. Two of the songs we grew to love from that Lounge Act last May are included on the new record, and the lounge versions are below for you to download now for free. (I am really liking the album version of “Temporary Blues”)
So check out these two songs and head on over and grab the new Features album now!
At this point, you have to either have just come here for the first time, or have possibly been ignoring all things music and internet over the past two months NOT to know about this years Modern Rock 500. So, just in case you fall into either of those categories, or several others (i.e. pure laziness), this post is for you.
We archived all 37 hours of our annual Memorial Day classic, and you can grab the full listing of all 500 songs and listen to the complete streaming audio by visiting this link. So check it out and enjoy it!
Here are the submissions for this weeks edition of Wear Your WOXY Wednesday….
This shot is of Paul (Euro60’s) daughter Veronique sporting the newest WOXY.com t-shirt!
This is a shot of Spectre, a message boarder, who did not send me this pic, but leaving it on our boards automatically enters you into the Wear Your WOXY pool.
Another boarder dropped this great shot on us as well and it features himself (Steve, far left) along with Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) himself!
Keep em coming folks! Wear Your WOXY this summer and send us the proof!
Chicago’s Unicycle Loves You have earned a solid reputation in their hometown for having great live performances. This session offers irrefutable proof of this claim as the band fill the Lounge with a wide array of instrumentation and harmonies.
You’ll hear 5 tracks from their self-titled debut record on Highwheel Records in this set. The band stopped by our studios on their way to some great weekend shows on the East Coast, including one hosted by our friends at The Music Slut in NYC and another by 5Acts.com in Washington, D.C.
This session marks a first for the Lounge. In an effort to maintain FCC friendliness for our local HD radio simulcast, the band made a last minute substitution of the word “motherfucker” with a nod to Papa Smurf instead.
It is a busy day here at WOXY.com and it does not slow up this evening either. Tonight at 8pm ET on WOXY.com we have a brand new episode of Friends Of The Futurist to bring to you. My guest this evening is Justin Gage of the great Los Angeles based music blog, Aquarium Drunkard.
Not only is Justin a great music blogger, but is also the founder of a great indie label out west, Autumn Tone Records. Join us tonight at 8pm ET as Justin picks the music and we chat about it and whatever else comes to mind.
We are getting ready right now for the first of two lounge act performances today in the lounge. First up is a local band that got their start with us on Local Lixx. Seabird have released their debut full length album today, Till We See The Shore and will be playing a live set for us just after Noon ET today.
A bit later this afternoon, we are excited to have Austin’s The Black Angels join us in the lounge as well. The band is out on tour right now off the strength of their new record, Directions To See A Ghost from Light In The Attic Records. Tune in for that session around 2:30 ET this afternoon.
Imaginary Johnny began as a solo bedroom recording project for Stuart Wolferman when he lived in Seattle. Over time, the project has evolved into a full band and now calls Brooklyn, NY home.
On their new album Only Chimneys, their songs are brought to life with full production and a little extra instrumentation which includes string arrangements and horns in the mix. During this session, you’ll hear the band perform 4 tracks off Only Chimneys.
