Monolith 2008 In Photos - Day 2

The Whigs

Day 2 saw the WOXY.com stage rumbling again with some really exceptional performances. I won’t downgrade any of the bands but the crowds were certainly all over the sets from The Whigs, Does It Offend You, Yeah, and Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson.

Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson

Have a look at some great shots from the WOXY.com stage from Day 2, as well as a few pics from other stages as well on Sunday from Bryan Jay.

Monolith 2008 In Photos - Day 1

(Port O’Brien)

The Monolith Festival returned this weekend to Red Rocks in Denver for the second annual festival and the WOXY.com stage was back as well. Bryan Jay and myself were on hand for each and every performance on the WOXY.com stage and had a great time hosting a slew of great bands. Day one got kicked off with a great crowd eager to start their festival and our friends from LoveLikeFire eager to ignite those in attendance and start things off right.

(White Denim)

And it did not slow down very much at all throughout Day 1, as WOXY.com favorites like Port O’Brien, Liam Finn and White Denim played great sets and impressed all those in attendance. And I was quite impressed with some bands I was not as familiar with as well, like Cameron McGill & What Army, The Hood Internet and Pop Levi.

Have a look at some of the best photos from Day 1 in this post, thanks to some great camera work by Bryan Jay. And stick around, we will be doing our best to not only recap each and every performance from the WOXY.com stage, but will also be bringing you audio from the shows, and of course more great pics from around the festival.

(LoveLikeFire)

(Liam Finn)

Lots more photos after the jump from day 1 at Monolith.

Monolith 2008 Preview - Jukebox The Ghost

If you have been around here very long, I don’t have to tell you much about Jukebox The Ghost. But just in case you have not, and are on the fence about how to start your Sunday at Monolith this weekend, well take this into account.

Jukebox The Ghost are a three piece from Washington D.C. who joined us in the lounge back in January of this year. Since then they have gone on to release an excellent debut album called Let Live & Let Ghosts. Shiv called them one of his favorite musical discoveries of 2007 and we have been nothing but impressed with how these guys are progressing. Get a sample of what Jukebox The Ghost sounds like below with some free downloads from their session with us in the lounge.

Jukebox The Ghost - Good Day(Live On WOXY.com)

Jukebox The Ghost - Victoria(Live On WOXY.com)

Jukebox The Ghost - Hold It In (Live On WOXY.com)

Jukebox The Ghost play the WOXY.com stage at 1pm On Sunday at the Monolith Festival

Monolith 2008 Preview - Port O’Brien

Port O’Brien started three years ago as the duo (and couple) of Van Pierszalowski and Cambria Goodwin. The band have expanded in recent years to a 5-piece and this year released an album that we have been enjoying ever since it arrived. All We Could Do Was Sing caught us by pleasant surprise and displays the bands tact for catchy hooks and captivating instrumentation.

Port O’Brien have been out on the road all summer long and will be playing on the WOXY.com stage at the Monolith Festival this weekend in Denver.

Be sure to stop by and catch their set, which is scheduled to go off at 2pm on Saturday September 13th.

Monolith 2008 Preview - The Whigs

The 2008 Monolith Festival kicks off this weekend! And one of the many great bands taking the WOXY.com stage are The Whigs. The Athens, Georgia based rockers gave us a great sample of their high energy sound earlier this year during a Lounge session and are a great band to catch live.

The Whigs have been touring the hell out of their excellent sophomore album, Mission Control, and have attracted a bunch of new fans in the process. Mission Control combines some of your favorite things about American rock music and injects The Whigs signature brand of hard hitting fun. This set is one you should not miss.

The Whigs are playing the WOXY.com stage Sunday Sept 14th @ 5:50pm.

The Whigs - Like A Vibration (Live On WOXY.com)

The Whigs - Right Hand On My Heart (Live On WOXY.com)

The Whigs - Live On WOXY.com (full session download)

WOXY.com Monolith Festival Flyaway Returns!

Last year for the inaugural Monolith Festival we gave a lucky winner and a guest a great prize package that not only got you in front of some incredible bands at an incredible venue (Red Rocks), but also got you there thanks to our friends at Southwest Airlines. Well, you have another chance to be a winner this year as well.

That’s right, WOXY.com is flying one lucky winner and their guest out to Red Rocks Amphitheater for the Monolith Festival on September 13th & 14th. Not only that, we’ll also hook you up with VIP passes to the festival. Airfare again graciously provided by Southwest Airlines.

This year to win, you have to first register, and then listen.

Now through August 8th, you can register by sending an email to woxycontests at gmail dot com with Monolith Flyaway in the subject line (also please include your name and address in the email). One entry per household please. Then, starting August 11th, we’ll call out a registrant’s name on the air sometime between Noon and 5pm ET, and if it’s you, you’ll have 10 minutes to call us here at WOXY.com to claim your spot in the grand prize drawing.

If you don’t call, we’ll move on to another name until someone claims their spot in the drawing. We’ll only qualify one person a day, Monday through Friday, for two weeks. So when we draw a winner on August 22nd at 5pm, there will be just 10 listeners eligible for the Grand Prize.

Got it? Good. So take the first step right now and send an email to woxycontests at gmail dot com with Monolith Flyaway in the subject line!
