Trying something new here today on The Futurist. WOXY.com To Go. As much as we would love to have your attention 24/7, we know that it not totally possible, at least not yet. But for now, here are some new free and legal songs to download that you will also find on the WOXY.com playlist currently.
Every now and then I like to highlight new additions to our hour of new music, which is at 6pm eastern time everyday on WOXY.com. It is one of my favorite hours of the day and while I know some folks would rather hear familiar stuff all the time, some of our more adventurous listeners are dedicated NBN fans.
Below is a listing of new songs we have been spinning on the program, with mp3 links when available.
New music today focuses in on the new album from Liars, which is a self titled album and is available in stores right now from Mute Records.
This is the fourth full length album from Liars and the follow up to their 2006 effort, Drums Not Dead.
This new album is easily the most accessible and poppy of any previous Liars albums.
Here are a few reviewers quotes about the new album.
“If it doesn’t quite confound like “They Were Wrong” or thrill like “Drum’s Not Dead,” Liars still finds the band ignoring whatever you thought you wanted or needed from them, and doing what they damn well please.” - Pitchfork
“Liars is an ingenuous reflection of a band in total control of their wild creativity.” - Lost At Sea
“For Liars, forgoing heady concepts and willful obtuseness–embracing rock music instead of deconstructing it–may actually be the boldest move yet.”- The Onion
New Music looks at the latest album from The New Pornographers today, released yesterday and titled, Challengers
This is the 4th full length effort from the so called “supergroup” made up of Destroyer’s Dan Bejar, A.C. Newman, and Neko Case among others.
A.C Newman again takes care of the majority of the songwriting on this album, penning 9 of the 12 songs.
Here are some reviewers quotes about the new album……
“More cinematic than “Twin Cinema,” more cohesive than any other record released this year, Challengers is so very good it almost compels you to think in the cliches of music criticism.” -Popmatters
“Challengers is their biggest grower yet, a dense collection of carefully constructed pop and brain power pop.” - AllMusicGuide
“This record might be a challenge for fans of the band’s hit-filled history and at times drifts dangerously close to the dreaded adult contemporary of your local Gap store, but give Challengers some growing time and it proves to be the New Pornos’ prettiest record yet.” - Filter
New music focuses in on the new album from Architechture In Helsinki today, which is in stores next Tuesday.
This is the third studio release from the band, but their first for Polyvinyl Records.
The Aussie indie-poppers are now a 6 member band, and had previously been an 8 piece.
Here are some reviewers quotes about the new album….
“Just know that Architecture in Helsinki have enough energy to continue cranking out these adrenaline and saccharine cocktails until you do.” - Tiny Mix Tapes
“Architecture’s indulgent heart is the band’s strongest suit–and tracks like the vibrant ‘Heart It Races’ wouldn’t be half as good if Bird and company weren’t willing to risk sounding a bit too sickly sweet sometimes.” - Filter
“Most of Places Like This doesn’t live up to its potential. Breathless, innovative changes and endless instrumentation are what the band do best, and for the most part, it’s not here.” - Popmatters
New music today is featuring the new album from Stars, due out Septemeber 25th from Arts & Crafts Records.
After the album leaked, Arts & Crafts tried to head off the downloaders by making the album availble in digital format right away. The physical album is not available until September 25th however.
This is the 4th full length album from the band that boasts many members of Broken Social Scene.
Here are some reviewers quotes about the new album.
“ In Our Bedroom is Rent as written by the Smiths, earnest and theatrical, full of characters desperate for love and some sense in the world.” - Village Voice
“The presentation is great– clean production, fine instrumentation, and careful arrangements– but its undercurrent is pure self-doubt and longing.” - Pitchfork
“In Our Bedroom After The War is Stars’ most consistent, nuanced album, and says good things for the future.” - Stylus
New music today is featuring the sophomore full length from indie rockers Bishop Allen. The band made a name for themselves last year by releasing new music each month and have now released their first full album in 4 years.
This is the first full length album from the band since 2003’s Charm School.
The album is being released on Dead Oceans Records, a sister label to Jagjaguwar and Secretly Canadian Records.
The album plays like a greatest hits from their ambitious “EP A Month” project from 2006.
Here are some reviewers quotes about the new album.
” The strength of Bishop Allen’s songwriting lies in the band’s ability to imbue their songs with universal appeal.” - Popmatters
“While managing to side-step both preciousness and predictability, The Broken String pulls together the long-anticipated and full-fledged follow-up that fans deserve, at the same time aptly defining where Bishop Allen is now: all over the map.” - Prefix Magazine
“It really is great, striding confidently from one high point to the next, with expansive yet homemade-sounding folk-rock songs.” - The Onion
