Classic WOXY Vinyl at Shake It

If you’re looking for the perfect holiday gift for that WOXY fanatic on your list (or maybe just a cool gift for yourself), head over to Shake It Records in Northside to pick up some classic vinyl from the WOXY vault. These records once lined the walls of the WOXY studios and exhibit evidence of all the love and airplay and needle drops they’ve received over the years. Many of the records include the date grids that we used to keep track of airplay as well as all the wear and tear (and scratches) from the good old days of analogue. Get em while they last…

Lounge Act Recap - The Scotland Yard Gospel Choir (08)

A full year after their first appearance in the Lounge, The Scotland Yard Gospel Choir stopped by for a return visit. This performance was scaled back here to just Elia, Mary, and Ethan performing as a trio (which is in stark contrast to their last session here or live shows at home in Chicago where 14 people have been known to end up on stage).

In the interview, Elia talks about the progress of their upcoming third album which should be released in the Spring of 2009.

Larry & John are back with a new edition of FUTURE SOUNDS this week, premiering tonight at 6p, featuring new music from ILLINOIS, THE ETIQUETTE, SWEET JANE, LILOFEE, and countless other up-and-coming artists you need to hear.

The newest addition to the WOXY lineup, FUTURE SOUNDS delivers a weekly two-hour program that gives listeners a first listen to the top independent bands that today fly under-the-radar but will soon become household names. For over five years, their compilation CD’s have highlighted artists on the lips of tastemakers, DJ’s, bloggers and A&R reps the world over. In addition to airing each program 4x/week, Monday at 6p, Tuesday at 7a, Thursday at 9p, and Noon Saturday, we’re archiving all the shows so you can see the entire tracklisting and listen whenever you like on-demand via the new FUTURE SOUNDS page on the WOXY.com site. These United States are one of the hardest working bands we know. In the past year, they have played so many shows, it would seem difficult for them to keep track, but they make a note of each one. The last time they were in our neck of the woods, they played music for us from their debut album, A Picture Of The Three Of Us At The Gates To The Garden Of Eden.

Since then, the band has been out on the road most of the time supporting their new album, Crimes and dropped by the studio to play some tunes from it on their way back home to Washington D.C. In the interview the guys chat with Joe about life on the road, putting out two albums in one year and what might be next for them.

Gentleman Auction House Release Christmas EP, Tour

Our friends from Gentleman Auction House have had a busy year, releasing an excellent debut album, Alphabet Graveyard, touring around the country, and of course, stopping into our studios for an excellent Lounge Act as well.

Now, the band are getting into the holiday swing of things with a Christmas EP of original tunes. The EP is titled Christmas In Love, and we are happy to give you a little preview today just in case you have not already heard it over on our Holiday Mixer, or are compiling your own Christmas Mix CD. Lounge Act Recap - The End Of The World

Stefan Marolachakis and Benjamin Smith have been friends for a decade now and playing music together for almost as long.

They self-produced their 2nd album French Exit, which was recorded in Brooklyn and also during a week of seclusion out in Montana.

When they play live, they expand the band into a 4-piece with the assistance of Sam Axelrod (formerly of The Narrator) and Mike Incze. For this performance and tour, the lineup was a trio, with Sam joining them on bass.

Their creative endeavors reach beyond just making music. They also run a label called Pretty Activity Records (which co-released the new album along with their friends at the Chicago-based Flameshovel Records) and have an online literary magazine published quarterly at takethehandle.com.

Horse Feathers released an excellent album earlier this year on the Kill Rock Stars label, House With No Home, and the Portland based trio have been out on the road touring ever since. The album showcases the trios simple elegance through strings, and beautiful vocals courtesy of frontman Justin Ringle.

In this session, we get 3 songs from House With No Home and one from the bands debut album. In the interview the band speaks with Joe about how their songs can be labeled at times as deceivingly simple, and the benefit of vinyl.
